God, the giver of life, whose Holy Spirit wells up within your Church: by the Spirit’s gifts equip us to live the gospel of Christ and make us eager to do your will, that we may share with the whole creation the joys of eternal life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
2 Timothy 2: 8-15
Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with him,
we will also live with him;
if we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
if we are faithless,
he remains faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.
Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarrelling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
Luke 17: 11-19
Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, ‘Jesus, Master, have pity on us!’ When he saw them, he said, ‘Go, show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went, they were cleansed.
One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him – and he was a Samaritan.
Jesus asked, ‘Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?’ Then he said to him, ‘Rise and go; your faith has made you well.’
A Harvest Auction will take place TODAY Sunday 9th October at Little Harrowden Church about 12 noon after the family Harvest Festival service today. Donations of fresh produce will be auctioned in aid of the church, and donations of tinned and dried food will be given to the local food bank.
Lent Courses: Mary has offered to prepare a Lent Course that addresses the questions and issues that people in our parishes would like to raise – there would be a box in each church for people to put in their suggestions for topics they would like to be discussed and to learn more about. These can be topical issues, or something in the bible such as the level of violence in the OT – anything at all. Each Lent Course session would be a separate topic. OR we can run courses as we have been doing. Please can those at Isham, Pytchley and Gt Harrowden talk about this together and let your churchwardens know which style of Lent Course you would prefer BEFORE our churchwardens meeting TOMORROW 10th October.
Exploring Christianity: Mary is going to run a course for those who would like to learn about Christianity – there are 3 people interested so far so please can you ask around to see who else might like to take part. The course can be a preparation for confirmation for those who wish.
Please spread the word – Kettering Foodbank are requesting the following please:
Tinned fruit, tinned rice pudding, packet crumble mix, packet pastry mix.
Drop off points: Pytchley School and Pytchley Church (open during the day).
THANK YOU EVERYONE who has donated tinned and dried food to our Harvest Festivals to be sent to local food banks where it is much appreciated.
A Light Party will be held at Pytchley Church at 5pm on Monday 31st October – bring your carved heart pumpkin and enjoy a “Light Tea”. Little Harrowden are having a Light Party during Café Church at 10.30am on Sunday 30th October.
Bible Reading and Tasting Club! Gillian is running this on 2nd Thursday of each month, 7.30pm at 7 The Paddocks, Orlingbury. Please let Gillian know if you can come to ensure there’s enough to taste! Intrigued? Go along and discover more!
Shoebox Christmas Gifts for Operation Christmas Child – Carolynne Adam has labels for those who are using old shoeboxes. This is a wonderful charity to support – parents have found it very worthwhile to take their children shopping in a supermarket to choose and buy suitable gifts for children in other countries who face a bleak Christmas. Karan Harris can also provide you with a special shoebox for you to fill, and ideas of what to include. Please take completed shoeboxes to any of our churches and our schools by Friday 18th November.
Little Harrowden Heritage Society are organising a Dinner & Speaker event at Harrowden Hall, Wellingborough Golf Club on Saturday 15th October, 7pm for 7.30pm. The speaker is Miranda Ponsonby, formerly a Welsh farmer and latterly a nurse – should be a fascinating talk! Tickets £30 each, in aid of Little Harrowden Church building. ALL WELCOME. This follows the success of last year’s event with Richard Coles. Please contact Bob Oldfield for tickets 01933 674 398.
Humour is a gift: A Sunday School teacher was exploring the children’s notion of God. She asked, “Tommy, who is God?” Six-year-old Tommy furrowed his brows and thought for a moment or two about the question. Suddenly he brightened, and with a grin said: “I think God is the man who saved the Queen.”
• For all following their baptisms today and for the parents, as they bring them up in the Christian faith.
• For all in need of healing.
• For the families and friends those who have died recently, and for all who are grieving, lonely or anxious.
• For the family and friends of Bryony St. John, and for all who grieve for the untimely loss of a young person.
• For those in Syria, and particularly for young families who have fled this war-torn country and are living in a refugee camp or trying to build a new life in a foreign country. We pray especially for families who have been torn apart by war and violence.
